Shore A and Shore D
The shore hardness is a material parameter for elastomers and plastics and is fixed in the standard DIN 53505 and DIN EN ISO 868. The shore hardness apparatus consists of a spring-tensioned indenter, whose flexible penetration depth is a designation for the shore hardness of the material, which is measured on a scale from 0 to 100. A high number means a large hardness.·
  • Shore A is used for softer elastomer measurements with a blunted point needle.
  • Shore D is used for harder elastomer measurements with a needle that is not blunted.
