Ash content

This test method is used to determine a possible change in weight due to ashing when the material is heated.

Summary of test method:
granular or crushed test specimens are weighed into two glass boats and then reduced to ash in a small tubular furnace for 20 minutes at approximately 800 °C.

The residue from ignition (ash content) in the two glass boats is weighed after the specimens have cooled to room temperature. If the difference in weight is greater than ± 0.5%, the test must be repeated.
