Accredited Thermoplastics Testing Center

The UL Thermoplastics Testing Center was, as a department of the present Covestro AG, initially accredited in 2001. The accreditation covers tests on plastics, and is regularly supplemented with further methods.

Basis for accreditation

An accreditation evidences the competence of a laboratory.

“The acceptance of testing and calibration results between countries should be facilitated if laboratories comply with this international standard and if they obtain accreditation from bodies which have entered into mutual recognition agreements with equivalent bodies in other countries...”

In its Quality Management Handbook, the UL Thermoplastics Testing Center sets out the details of all personal and professional responsibilities and duties within the institution.

  • All testing personnel, who are named, must submit documentary evidence of their qualifications and participate regularly in further trainings.
  • Staff and management must sign an impartiality agreement in order to guarantee the neutrality and objectivity of our test results.
  • All staff must maintain confidentiality when dealing with customer projects.
  • Compliance with quality standards according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 is monitored by a quality officer, for example by means of internal audits.

Complaints are processed according to a defined procedure. Any damages resulting from faulty testing are covered by liability insurance.

The Quality Management Handbook defines the performance and monitoring of each individual testing method. For example, test results are traceable to national and international calibration standards.

Uniform high test quality – monitored worldwide

Continuous round robin tests with testing laboratories worldwide ensures monitoring the comparability and reproducibility of test results. The test results of various local testing laboratories are monitored by generally accepted rules of statistics and measuring system analysis. All testing laboratories are kept permanently informed about the level of quality attained.

Comparable and legally valid test results

The authenticity of test results is underlined by our accreditation. In the event of disputes the test data from an accredited test laboratory constitutes a legally valid record.

Strengthening of market position

An accreditation is a proof of competence in the testing technology sector. It enhances a company’s reputation.

Continuous quality improvement

The accredited mechanical, technological, rheological, and physical tests as well as fire behavior of polymeric materials, material combinations, and finished products can be viewed in the DAkkS database “Directory of accredited bodies”.
